Wildwood’s rich legacy was created by all the men and women whose lives have been transformed by their experience of this place. Initially created by gay men as a retreat for gay men, Wildwood has evolved over time to serve all persons seeking personal and spiritual growth.
A strong clarity of purpose and direction, along with fresh faces and new energy, have manifested at Wildwood during the last several years. With this new vigor and vitality comes new vision, opportunities, challenges and responsibilities.
After much reflection and discussion, Wildwood’s board and staff articulated a clear vision of what Wildwood can become, and a strategy to take us there. This vision is built on our values, mission, history, and this land, which has long been a powerful crucible for personal and spiritual transformation.
We believe that Wildwood now has the foundation in place to become a center of record for healing and spiritual transformation on the West Coast.
As the consequences of humanity’s impact on the planet play out through climate change, it is crucial that our relationship to the earth become based firmly in respect, wisdom, interdependence and mutual healing. As we enter this period of
rapid change for all environmental and social systems, Wildwood’s mission – “to conserve the beauty and tranquility of Wildwood, and to use the land to nourish the physical and emotional human spirit” – takes on even greater significance and power.
Wildwood offers all who come here an opportunity to heal themselves through connection with the land, and to heal the earth by transforming ourselves and our society.
To facilitate this healing and transformation, Wildwood will:
- Develop programming that is based in and in alignment with the healing power of our land and
communities.
- Expand our conservation mission, reach and impact to make the best use of Wildwood’s natural resources.
- Make Wildwood a professional, prosperous, stable and effective resource and force for
those individuals and organizations who are working to heal themselves and our planet.
