New Executive Director
Michael Condren has taken on the role of Executive Director of the Wildwood Conservation Foundation. Michael was previously president of the board and has a deep knowledge of and commitment to Wildwood. The board recognized that Wildwood needs a leader on staff who is responsible for driving our vision. Michael’s first tasks will be to create the systems, processes and conditions for Wildwood to become “institutionally ready”, while providing strategic planning and sustained action towards Wildwood’s future development, prosperity and stability.

Changes to the Wildwood Conservation Foundation Board

  • Greg John has stepped up to become President of the board. Greg has been a member of the board since 2004, and a longtime member of the Wildwood community.
  • James Holloway joined the board at our meeting in September. James is a retired real estate professional and community activist who has served on the board of the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, where he spearheaded several community projects. As a former CFO of Project Angel Food, and as a former San Francisco gay community titleholder he has a broad range of practical and activist skills. He has deep enthusiasm for Wildwood and looks forward to facilitating future Wildwood programming.

  • Daniel Morales resigned from the board in September. Daniel was Secretary of the board for 18 months, and we thank him for his service to Wildwood.

  • Nick DeMartino was elected Secretary. Nick has been a board member for several years, and was formerly head of the Fundraising Committee.
Emeritus Board Members
After eight years of hard work and service to Wildwood, Michael Kem and Ken Symington resigned from the board in September. To honor their sustained commitment and extraordinary contribution to Wildwood’s creation and development, they were named Emeritus Board members in September. Collin Brown, founder and first board president, was also named an Emeritus Board member in recognition of his service to Wildwood. As emeritus board members, they will continue to serve Wildwood on special projects and activities.

A Busy Year at Wildwood
Tim and Martin, Wildwood’s general managers, have been tremendously busy since they took on the challenge of stewarding Wildwood Retreat last December. They’ve made enormous progress in tackling a number of projects to maintain and improve the facilities, improve our business practices, and expand our client base. Some of these projects are very noticeable, like the new paint on the Lodge. Many more are behind the scenes, like new plumbing and electrical improvements, new accounting systems, and better resource management.

Here’s a partial list of some of the more notable infrastructure projects that were completed this past year:

  • New electrical generator, providing emergency power in case of a power failure.
  • New stove, vent hood, improved fire proofing and lighting in the kitchen.
  • Remodeled Carriage House, creating three new rooms for guests and staff.
  • New sheets and towels for the guest rooms.
  • Installation of a new saline water purification systems for the pool and hot tub.
  • Installation of pump and safety upgrades in the hot tub.
  • New wiring and parts for the sauna.
  • New 5,000 gallon tank and upgrades to water system in progress.
  • And too many more projects to mention here.

Some of these projects were funded through the commitment and generosity of members of the Wildwood community, who donated their time, money and resources. We thank them for their generosity of spirit and support for Wildwood.

We’re constantly working on more projects to improve Wildwood's facilities and infrastructure. Some of the more substantial and costly projects that we’re raising money to complete include:

  • Maytag heavy duty washing machine: $500.
  • Solar collectors to heat the pool: $2500 (matching funds available).
  • Stone and iron entrance gate: $6500 (matching funds possible).
  • New walk lights for the paths and gardens: $1200.
